Traffic Alert: Laymantown Road to close at its intersection with Route 460 as safety improvement project continues in Botetourt County

SALEM – As part of the safety improvement project at the intersection of Route 658 (Laymantown Road) and Route 460, Laymantown Road will be closed during the summer beginning Thursday, May 21, 2026. A detour will be in place.

Drivers traveling in the Bonsack area on eastbound or westbound Route 460 towards Bedford will not be able to turn left or right at the signal onto Laymantown Road. Instead, detour signs will be in place directing traffic to use Route 1430 (Knoll Road) and Route 1413 (Knollwood Drive) for access to Laymantown Road.  

To access Route 460 from Laymantown Road, motorists will follow the detour signs by turning left onto Route 1413 (Knollwood Drive) before reaching the signalized intersection and then turning right onto Route 1430 (Knoll Road).

In addition, lane closures are still possible on Route 460 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and on Route 658 (Laymantown Road) from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

All businesses in the area will continue to be accessible including the Sheetz on the corner.

The project is expected to be completed in summer 2026.
