Traffic Alert: Route 460 and Laymantown Road intersection improvement project in Botetourt County begins today

SALEM – Weather permitting, as part of an intersection improvement project, starting today, Monday, March 2, drivers who use Route 460 (Blue Ridge Boulevard) and Route 658 (Laymantown Road) in Botetourt County should expect possible lane closures.

On March 5 and 6, drivers can expect nighttime lane closures for pavement marking operations in preparation for barrier wall installation.

As the project moves forward, nighttime lane closures will be in place on Route 460, Monday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Lane closures will also be in place on Laymantown Road Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Motorists should pay attention to signs and traffic control devices and use caution in the work zone.

Later this year, Laymantown Road is scheduled to be closed at this location over the summer, beginning no sooner than May 21, with a detour in place.

This road project involves adding a right turn lane on westbound Route 460 for drivers turning onto Laymantown Road. The project is expected to be completed in late summer 2026.
