BRISTOL – Multiple teams came together to assemble, install and repair two bridges in the Taylor’s Valley area of Washington County, restoring access to the community and allowing the Washington County Service Authority to begin the process of re-establishing water service to the area.
From start to finish, crews from VDOT’s Bristol, Staunton and Northern Virginia districts, along with Jones Road & Bridge completed the installation of a Bailey bridge and made repairs to a second bridge within 51 hours. The road and bridges opened to traffic by 10 a.m. Sunday, October 6.
A Bailey bridge is a prefabricated, modular bridge made of steel panels that can be quickly assembled to create a bridge of various spans and loads.
Currently, nine bridges across the Bristol District remain closed due to storm damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
