BRISTOL, Va. – A contract has been signed to clean up and rebuild approximately 1.5 miles of Route 58 in Washington County.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its contractor W-L Construction & Paving, Inc., Chilhowie, Va., will begin cleanup work in the coming days, removing the remaining portions of asphalt and any debris as they rebuild sections of the road.
The road work begins approximately ¾-mile north of the intersection of Routes 58 and 91 in Damascus and ends 2.18 miles east of the intersection of Route 91.
“We stress to the public the importance of avoiding the area, especially those traveling beyond the road closed signs on ATVs, bicycles or on foot,” Bristol District Project Development Engineer Marty Halloway, P.E., said. “This will soon be a busy work zone with heavy machinery and large trucks entering and exiting the area.”
The rebuilding of Route 58 is anticipated to take approximately one year to complete.
“VDOT will work closely with its partners such as Washington County, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and multiple state and federal agencies to ensure we deliver a quality product,” Bristol District Engineer Tabitha Crowder, P.E., said.
