BRISTOL - Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews continue efforts to clear snow from Friday’s winter weather and will then prepare for the potential for winter weather on Sunday (January 5).
Forecasts currently call for the potential for snow, freezing rain and rain Sunday into Monday. Saturday will be the best day for travel in advance of the predicted weather. Motorists are encouraged to check travel conditions along their entire route. In Virginia, visit 511.vdot.virginia.gov or use the VDOT 511 app for road and traffic conditions.
Midday Saturday, motorists should be alert to brining operations along Interstates 81 and 77 in Southwest Virginia. Brine is a mix of salt and water used to prevent snow and ice from bonding to pavement.
Local updates about conditions in VDOT’s Bristol District are posted on X, formerly Twitter, at @VaDOTBristol. Visit VDOT’s winter weather page for more information about winter weather preparations and response.
