A project to widen a portion of I-81 in the Bristol and Washington County areas is gearing up in January.
BRISTOL, Va. – A project to widen a portion of I-81 in the Bristol and Washington County areas is gearing up in January.
As part of the Interstate 81 Corridor Improvement Program, a project to widen Interstate 81 southbound between exits 10 and 7 was recently awarded and construction begins this month.
The project also includes the widening of a northbound portion of I-81 beginning near exit 7 and extending north approximately one mile.
The $30.7 million construction project will be constructed by W-L Construction and Paving, Inc., Chilhowie, Virginia.
Motorists should be alert to work along the shoulder of the interstate. Most lane closures will occur at night; however, be alert to the possibility of periodic daytime lane closures.
