Public hearing set for proposed McMullin Bridge replacement (Smyth County)

Wednesday, Jan. 15, 4-6 p.m., at Oak Point Elementary School

BRISTOL — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public hearing to review design plans for a project to replace the Route 660 bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Smyth County (McMullin Bridge).

The open house/drop-in format public hearing will take place Wednesday, Jan. 15, 4-6 p.m., at Oak Point Elementary School, located at 138 Oak Point Drive in Marion.

The purpose of this project is to replace the bridge to improve access. Replacement will include constructing a new bridge, demolishing the existing bridge and realigning portions of Route 660 and Browns Subdivision Road to facilitate the construction.

Other anticipated work for the project will include new pavement, drainage pipes, a stormwater management facility, guardrail, retaining walls, signs, pavement markings, and realignment of private property access.
