Public meeting set for proposed Route 460/610 intersection project

Thursday, October 12 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Richlands High School

BRISTOL—In October, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public meeting for proposed safety improvements at the intersection U.S. Route 460 and Route 610 in the Claypool Hill area of Tazewell County.

The open house format public meeting will take place Thursday, October 12 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Richlands High School, located at 138 Tornado Alley. The project website includes materials that will be available at the public hearing: https://www.publicinput.com/L6020.

The project will enhance safety at the intersection of U.S. 460 and Route 610 by raising the eastbound elevation of U.S. 460 to remove the grade difference with the westbound direction, allowing for the northbound approach to be brought into the current traffic signal. Additionally, a new traffic signal pole will be installed and the acceleration lane for the northbound right turn will be removed.

Comments regarding the project can be provided to VDOT until October 22, 2023, via the following methods:

  • Call VDOT Project Manager Ron Flanary at 276-696-3252.
  • Email Ronald.Flanary@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “U.S. 460/Route 610 Intersection Project Tazewell County” in the subject line.
