Two Tazewell County bridge replacements finishing early and under budget

BRISTOL – Two bridge replacement projects in Tazewell County wrap up in the next two weeks, both coming in early and under the original project cost.

The Route 61 (Cove Creek Road) bridge in Tazewell County wraps up today (April 27), finishing four months early and 3% under the original project cost. During construction, traffic signals controlled one-way traffic across the bridge, with a width restriction of 10 feet 6 inches.The Route 61 bridge replacement began in Fall 2025. The original project cost for the project was $2.03 million, using state funds.

The project to replace the Business Route 460/Front Street bridge over the Clinch River in Richlands officially wraps up on May 8, finishing two weeks early and 8% under the original project cost.

The Front Street project detour was removed on April 13, and the finishing work items will be completed next week.

The project began approximately one year ago in April 2025. The original project cost for the replacement project was $5.3 million, and state funds were used.
