SALEM – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are fully mobilized and are working in 12-hour shifts as the winter weather continues in the region. Crews are actively treating roads and will begin to plow once snow reaches 2 inches.
Snow is expected to continue throughout the day, and travel conditions will worsen and change rapidly, especially during Monday afternoon’s commute. Drivers should avoid travel during the storm or until conditions on roadways improve. Periods of reduced visibility, accumulating snow and slick roads are expected as the system continues.
Travelers can get real-time information on road conditions, traffic incidents and congestion on Virginia roads by using VDOT’s 511 free mobile app or phone system or on the 511 website at https://511.vdot.virginia.gov/ which can help travelers plan their routes accordingly.
