SALEM — Weather permitting, as part of an ongoing road construction project, starting on Wednesday, July 10, drivers who use Route 839 (International Parkway) at its intersection with Route 220 in Botetourt County should expect possible daytime lane closures.
On weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., International Parkway may be reduced to one lane at the Route 220 intersection. Motorists should pay attention to signs and traffic control devices and use caution in the work zone.
Drivers on International Parkway who turn from Route 220, turn onto Route 220 or travel across Route 220 can expect possible daytime lane closures or narrowed turn lanes until late July.
This road project involves constructing an innovative intersection, known as a restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT), to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection. Throughout the life of the project, drivers can expect lane closures on Route 220 and traffic pattern changes at the intersection.
Construction is anticipated to be completed in summer 2025.
