Traffic Alert: Pipe replacement on Route 219 to impact traffic in Giles County
Watch for flaggers and expect delays starting tomorrow Saturday, August 2

SALEM – Weather permitting, work to replace a pipe on Route 219 (Federal Street) in Giles County, just north of Rich Creek, will begin on Saturday, August 2, during daytime hours and continue on Wednesday, August 6 during nighttime hours. Drivers should expect delays.
On Saturday, August 2, flaggers will control traffic between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Route 219 for preliminary work to prepare for the pipe replacement.
On Wednesday, August 6, Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8, flaggers will be controlling traffic during nighttime hours between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning.
Message boards will be in place to alert drivers to the upcoming nighttime road work and announce any revisions to the schedule due to weather.
The Virginia Department of Transportation was able to schedule crews to begin the work earlier than the originally planned start date during the week of August 11.
