Interstate 81 Advisory Committee scheduled to meet July 14 in Augusta County

RICHMOND — The Interstate 81 Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 3 p.m. in Augusta County. Blue Ridge Community College will host the meeting in the Robert E. Plecker Workforce Center, One College Lane, Weyers Cave, VA 24486. There will be a designated time for public comment during the meeting.

At the same location as the I-81 Advisory Committee meeting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will gather feedback regarding potential improvements along I-81 in Virginia. The in-person public meeting, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., is part of Round 2 (Potential Solutions) in the I-81 Corridor Improvement Plan (CIP). The I-81 Advisory Committee is charged with providing advice and making recommendations to the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) regarding the development and updates to the I-81 CIP, as directed in Chapter 846 of the 2019 Acts of Assembly.

The committee has 15 voting members: seven Virginia lawmakers, three CTB members representing the Bristol, Salem and Staunton districts, and the five chairs of the planning district commissions. The commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation and the director of the Department of Rail and Public Transportation serve on the committee ex officio in nonvoting capacities.

The CIP unlocks I-81 by enhancing safety and reliability, reducing congestion and supporting economic growth. The $3 billion program includes 65 construction projects plus operational improvements along the 325 miles of I-81 in Virginia. Find out more at Improve81.org.
