Daytime Closures on Route 633 in Alleghany County for Bridge Work Beginning March 15

This work and related traffic restrictions have been rescheduled for Saturday, March 15, and Monday to Thursday, March 17-20. The original news release is below.

 

STAUNTON – Part of Route 633 (McKinney Hollow Road) in Alleghany County is scheduled to be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, March 5-6, and again Monday to Thursday, March 10-13. These daytime closures are in the area of the Cowpasture River bridge, and allow crews to stage equipment and remove an adjacent truss bridge.

During the bridge work, Route 633 will be closed to through traffic between Route 634 (Riverland Road) and the Botetourt County line. Detours are as follows:

  • Drivers traveling north will need to take Route 633 (McKinney Hollow Road) south, Route 220 north, Longdale Furnace Road (Route 670/632/269) east, and then Route 633 (Sharon Lane/McKinney Hollow Road) to the end of the detour.
  • Drivers traveling south will need to take Route 633 (McKinney Hollow Road/Sharon Lane) north, Longdale Furnace Road (Route 269/632/670) west, Route 220 south and then Route 633 (McKinney Hollow Road) north to the end of the detour.

All work is weather permitting, and the schedule is subject to change.
