Rockbridge County
STAUNTON — Paving work is scheduled for northbound Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County from exit 191 (I-64 junction) and exit 195 (Route 11) from June 1 - 12, 2025. Work hours are from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights and from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Sunday nights. No work is expected on Friday or Saturday nights.
When construction is taking place near the I-64/I-81 junction, expect overnight closures of the ramp from eastbound I-64 onto northbound I-81. This ramp merges onto I-81 from the left lane near mile marker 192. During ramp closures, eastbound I-64 motorists who need to access northbound I-81 will detour by using I-64 exit 56 onto southbound I-81 and continue for three miles to exit 188A. Merge onto eastbound Route 60 (East Midland Trail) and follow the detour signs to enter northbound I-81 at the same interchange.
Northbound I-81 will also have nighttime and overnight left- or right-lane closures throughout the paving operation. All work is weather permitting.
