Part of Route 656 in Augusta County closed June 3 – 6 for railroad crossing work

STAUNTON – A portion of Route 656 (Offliter Road) in the Stuarts Draft community of Augusta County will be closed to through traffic from about 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, through the evening of Friday, June 6. The closure is between Route 608 (Cold Springs Road) and Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) due to railroad crossing maintenance. 

Motorists can access homes and businesses by approaching from the appropriate side of the crossing. Through traffic will use the posted detour as follows:

  • Drivers north of the rail crossing will follow Route 657 north, Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) north, then Route 608 (Draft Avenue/Cold Springs Road) south to return to Route 656.
  • Drivers south of the rail crossing will follow Route 608 (Cold Springs Road/Draft Avenue) north, Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) south and then Route 657 south to return to Route 656.
