Railroad work to close Welltown Road crossing in Frederick County in late November

STAUNTON — Railroad work will close the Winchester and Western Railroad crossing on Route 661 (Welltown Road) in Frederick County.  The closure begins on Tuesday, November 28 at 7 a.m. and will conclude by 12 midnight on Friday night, December 1.

Traffic can use the following detour:

  • Northbound: Route 661 to Route 672 (Hopewell Road) to Interstate 81 exit 321 at Clearbrook.
  • Southbound: Interstate 81 exit 321 at Clearbrook to Route 672 to Route 661.

Truck restrictions on Route 661 will be lifted during this period.
