STAUNTON – The intersection of Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) and Route 612 (Shepherds Mill Road) in Clarke County is scheduled to close for at least a month beginning Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, April 21 or April 22. The location is just south of the West Virginia state line, where a Route 340 widening project is taking place.

The following detours will be in place:

  • Route 340 drivers who need to access Route 612 will go south on Route 340 for about four miles to the Berryville area, and then east on Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) for about four miles to return to Route 612.
  • Route 612 drivers who need to access Route 340 will go south to the intersection with Route 7, proceed west on Route 7 for about four miles to the Berryville area, and then north on Route 340 for about four miles to the end of the detour.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will advise when the Route 340/612 intersection reopens. The date could be subject to weather delays and construction scheduling.
