STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties in the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. When traveling through a work zone, use extreme caution and be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

*UPDATE* Mile marker 3 to 5, eastbound and westbound – Right lane closures for shoulder repairs, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

*NEW* Mile marker 14 to 16, eastbound and westbound – Left or right shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

*NEW* Mile marker 16 to 19, eastbound and westbound – Overnight single lane closures overhead sign inspection, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday night (Nov. 23).

Mile marker 24 to 26, eastbound and westbound – Right lane closures in place 24/7 for bridge maintenance through Nov. 15.

*NEW* Mile marker 28 to 37, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 35 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

PRIMARY ROADS

*NEW* Route 18 (South Carpenter Drive), Flagger traffic control from East Ashbury Street to East Madison Street for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday. 

*UPDATE* Route 42 (Forty Two Road) – Single-lane traffic near Route 636 (Morgan Drive) for maintenance to bridge over railway. Temporary signals control traffic 24/7. Wide-load tractor trailers are prohibited. Estimated project completion Nov. 28.

*NEW* Route 154 (Durant Road) – Single lane closures around the I-64 interchange for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

*NEW* Route 269 (Longdale Furnace Road) - Shoulder closures near Clark Lane for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Various roads – Overnight single-lane closures in the Covington area for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday night (Nov. 23).

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for tree and debris removal, drainage work, pothole patching, brush cutting, ditching and shoulder repairs, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

*NEW* Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures between Route 716 (Timber Ridge Road) and Route 645 (Valley Pike) for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

*NEW* Route 60 (West Midland Trail) – Flagger traffic control between Ebenezer Circle and I-64 interchange for paving operations, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Friday.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 206 to 208, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for installation of traffic sensors, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.

*NEW* Mile marker 211 to 218, northbound and southbound – Slow-roll closures for overhead utility work between 6 a.m. and 12 noon Sunday (Nov. 16).

Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Single-lane traffic on exit 221 southbound ramp to I-64 eastbound through November 2025. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.

Mile marker 234 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.

*NEW* Exit 235, northbound – Off-ramp right shoulder closed for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Utility work near Route 616 (Dam Town Road) intersection with single-lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and shoulder closures 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) – Eastbound right shoulder closure between Route 876 (Swoope Road) and Route 42 (Buffalo Gap Highway) for utility work, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Dec. 2.

*NEW* Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Mobile closures between Route 11 (Commerce Road) and the I-81 interchange for utility work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control and westbound turn-lane closures at Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) for intersection improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 2026.

*NEW* Route 636 (Old Goose Creek Road) – Flagger traffic control near Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) intersection for pipe installation, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 11 – 26.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 to 4 p.m. through April 2026.

Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control near Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) for intersection and roadway improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 2026.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.

Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange project with completion expected in fall 2026.

*NEW* Mile marker 246 to 247, northbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

PRIMARY ROADS

*NEW* Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Mobile lane closures between Route 655 (Penn Laird Drive) and Route 842 (Mountain Grove Road) for utility work, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Mobile lane closures between Laurel Wood Lane and West Virginia state line for pavement marking operations, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.

Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Single-lane closures as needed. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for bridge replacements and interchange improvements with expected completion in September 2026.

Route 42 (Harpine Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1415 (Early Drive) and Route 1432 (5^th Street) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.     

Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 680 (Oak Ridge Road) and Route 689 (Shen Lake Drive/Spaders Church Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Nov 27.

*NEW* Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) – Mobile lane closures between Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) and Augusta County line for pavement marking operations, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.

*NEW* Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Route 708 (Lynnwood Road/Ore Bank Road) and Route 253 (Port Republic Road) for fiber installation, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

Route 340 (South Eastside Highway) – Flagger traffic control for tree trimming from Route 708 (Ore Bank Road) to Route 754 (Rocky Bar Road), 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

Route 731 (Community Center Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 750 (Nazarene Church Road) and Route 257 (Briery Branch Road) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.  

Route 755 (Lambert Town Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 750 (Nazarene Church Road) and Route 257 (Briery Branch Road) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Monday.

*NEW* Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Westbound right shoulder closures near Luray eastern town limits for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 340 – Northbound and southbound mobile lane closures between Route 663 (Island Ford Road) and Warren County line for pavement marking operations, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.

Route 340 – Flagger traffic control between Route 648 (Sandy Hook Road) and Route 660 (Kibler Hill Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Nov. 28.

Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – Westbound mobile lane closures between Route 653 (Kimble Road) and Route 608 (Parshall Road) for pavement marking operations, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.

Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – Eastbound and westbound single-lane closures at Frederick County line for bridge painting, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday (Nov. 16).

Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures between Route 610 (Clifton Road) and West Virginia state line for bridge joint repairs. Northbound lane closures are 24/7 while southbound closures are daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 28.

*NEW* Route 601 (Blueridge Mountain Road) – Shoulder closures between Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) and Route 50/17 (John Mosby Highway) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Jan. 9.

*UPDATE* Mile marker 5 to 0, westbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Mile marker 7 to 8, eastbound and westbound – Right lane and shoulder closures for inspections to the bridge over railway and Shenandoah River, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
