VDOT Staunton District
STAUNTON – Part of Route 253 (Port Republic Road) in Rockingham County will have a temporary traffic signal and vehicle-width restrictions for about three months beginning Monday, March 3. The location is at the village of Port Republic, where contractors for the Virginia Department of Transportation will perform maintenance on the North River bridge.
Vehicles over 11 feet in width will not be able to cross the bridge during the three-month period, and will need to use alternate routes. Signs on Route 253, Route 276 (Cross Keys Road), Route 340 (East Side Highway) and Route 825 (South River Road) will advise motorists of the 11-foot width restriction.
Vehicles under 11 feet in width will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal on Route 253 as they approach the North River bridge. The signal will be in operation 24/7 until maintenance work is complete on or about Friday, May 23. All work is weather permitting.
