Staunton District
STAUNTON – (4 a.m.) A winter storm that is expected to bring several inches of snow as well as freezing rain is working its way into the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands. Snow will overspread the region by mid-morning Tuesday and will become heavy at times, creating slick road conditions and poor visibility. Sleet and freezing rain are expected to arrive later in the day in many areas, adding to the travel hazards.
Do not travel on Tuesday, but instead allow time for crews and contractors for the Virginia Department of Transportation to plow and treat roads. Plows have been dispatched throughout the 11-county VDOT Staunton District and will continue to work until all roads are passable.
Weather and road conditions will vary significantly around the state. If travel is essential, check local weather sources and road conditions at 511Virginia for your entire route before leaving.
