STAUNTON — The public is invited to participate in an online survey, Jan. 21 to Feb. 4, 2025, regarding a 1.4-mile segment of Vine Street between U.S. 33 and U.S. 11 in the City of Harrisonburg. Input opportunities include how Vine Street is used and offer perspective on current transportation conditions, challenges, and opportunities for the roadway.

Here is a link to the survey: https://publicinput.com/vinestreet

The survey is part of a Virginia Department of Transportation STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study in collaboration with the City of Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, and the Harrisonburg Rockingham Metropolitan Planning Organization (HRMPO).

The study evaluates safety and operational needs for all corridor users and can be used to develop improvement recommendations. The recommendations will focus on the identified needs, improve non-motorized access along the corridor, and consider an overall future vision of the corridor in terms of purpose and typical section.

Final study recommendations will be considered by the City of Harrisonburg for advancement through state transportation funding programs.

Vine Street is a two-lane roadway that serves as an important north/south connector through a primarily residential area within the city.

Designated as a Minor Arterial roadway, Vine Street has a posted speed limit of 25 mph and contains sections of existing bike lanes and limited sidewalks.

The study corridor contains several intersections and segments designated with Potential of Safety Improvement (PSI) rankings. PSI is a VDOT safety evaluation tool.  More information can be found on the Vine Street study page on the VDOT website: https://www.vdot.virginia.gov/projects/staunton-district/city-of-harrisonburg--vine-street-stars-study/

Upon survey completion, VDOT and its study patterners will evaluate the data and develop potential recommendations for future improvements.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
