BRISTOL - Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews continue efforts to clean roadways in southwest Virginia following snow Friday through the morning hours Saturday.

Motorists should be alert to snow plow operators working along primary routes. Once snow ends and primary routes are clear, crews will move to secondary routes (numbered 600+).

Current conditions include:

  • Interstate 81 in Washington, Smyth and Wythe counties and I-77 in Bland and Wythe counties are clear.
  • The majority of primary routes in Washington, Smyth, Wythe, Bland, Grayson, Scott, Wise and Lee counties are snow-covered and slick.
  • Primary routes in Dickenson, Buchanan, Russell and Tazewell counties have scattered snow patches.
  • Most secondary routes in southwest Virginia are snow-covered.

Motorists are encouraged to check travel conditions along their entire route. In Virginia, visit 511.vdot.virginia.gov or use the VDOT 511 app for road and traffic conditions.

Local updates about conditions in VDOT’s Bristol District are posted on X, formerly Twitter, at @VaDOTBristol. Visit VDOT’s winter weather page for more information about winter weather preparations and response.
