I-81 rest area closure scheduled due to paving in Smyth County

BRISTOL – Weather permitting, paving is scheduled for Monday (August 4) from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Atkins Rest Area, located on southbound Interstate 81 at mile marker 53 in Smyth County.

This paving will require the rest area to be closed temporarily. Southbound I-81 travelers should plan accordingly and consider alternative safety rest areas and truck parking.

The paving schedule is weather-dependent and may change. Drivers should pay attention to electronic message boards for the latest information.
