STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties in the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
 
INTERSTATE 64
*NEW* Mile marker 14 to 16, eastbound – Right lane closures for pavement repairs, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 42 (Forty Two Road) – Single-lane traffic near Route 636 (Morgan Drive) for maintenance to bridge over railway. Temporary traffic signals in operation 24/7. Wide-load tractor trailers are prohibited. Estimated project completion September 30.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for tree and debris removal, drainage work, pothole patching, brush cutting, ditching and shoulder repairs, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

SECONDARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 606 (Sulphur Spring Road) – Closed to through traffic between Clifton Forge town limits and Bath County line for mowing operations, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for ditch work, shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, pipe replacement and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 

BATH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81
*NEW* Mile marker 175 to 177, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for utility work, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday nights (September 20-21).
*NEW* Mile marker 186 to 189, northbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Wednesday.
Mile marker 188 to 180, southbound – Overnight single lane closures for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights through October 10.
*NEW* Mile marker 199 to 200, northbound – Right shoulder closures for drainage work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 130 (Rockbridge Road) – Flagger traffic control between 8th Street (town of Glasgow) and Douglas Way/Clarktown Lane for fiber installation, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday. 
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 608 (Forge Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) and Route 679 (Lone Jack Road) for fiber installation, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for grading, pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, pavement patching, shoulder repairs and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

AUGUSTA COUNTY 
 
INTERSTATE 64
*UPDATE* Mile marker 89 to 94, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 91 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
*NEW* Mile marker 91 to 95, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder and pipe work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
*NEW* Mile marker 94 to 97, eastbound and westbound – Overnight single lane closures for bridge inspection, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday night (September 21).

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 218 to 221, northbound – Overnight single lane closures for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on nights through October 16.
Mile marker 220 to 222, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for construction of I-81 southbound auxiliary lane project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. 
*NEW* Mile marker 221 to 224, northbound and southbound – Overnight right lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night.
Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Single-lane traffic on southbound I-81 ramp to I-64 eastbound at exit 221 through November 2025. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
*NEW* Mile marker 224 to 227, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Mile marker 234 to 237, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes. 

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures between Route 781 (Bald Rock Road/Mill Race Road) and Route 1930 (Rolla Mill Road) for painting of bridge over Middle River, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through September 30.
*NEW* Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) – Overnight eastbound right lane closures between I-81 overpass bridges for crane demobilization, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night. 
Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Flagger and pilot truck traffic control between Route 715 (Braley Pond Road) and Highland County line for paving operations, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through October 3.
*NEW* Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Shoulder closures between New Hope Road and Route 795 (Saint James Road/Glover Circle) for bridge inspection, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
*NEW* Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 276/750 (Keezletown Road) and Route 2003 (Wayside Drive) for railroad crossing maintenance, 6 p.m. Friday (September 19) through 8 a.m. Sunday (September 21). Follow posted detour.
Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 772 (Sulfur Pump Road) and Route 865 (Rockfish Road) for painting of bridge over Middle River, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through September 30.
*NEW* Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures between New Hope Road and Bells Lane for bridge inspections, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Route 340 (Eastside Highway) – Northbound and southbound single lane closures and flagger traffic control as needed between Route 663 (Crimora Station Lane/Mine Branch Road) and Route 672/619 (Turk Mountain Lane/Patrick Mill Lane) for changing powerline poles, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday. 

SECONDARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 624 (Mount Torrey Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1601 (Featherstone Drive) and Route 1607 (Inch Run Lane) for rock and soil testing, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
*NEW* Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.


ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 
 
INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.  Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange project with completion expected in fall 2026.

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Single lane closures or travel-lane shifts as needed between MLK Jr. Way and Linda Lane/Burgess Road. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge replacements and interchange improvement with expected completion in September 2026. 
*NEW* Route 42 (John Wayland Highway, Dayton) – Northbound and southbound turn lane onto Route 290 (Huffman Drive) closed for pavement resurfacing on section of Route 290, Monday through Friday.
Route 211 (New Market Road, Timberville) – Single lane closures between 1514 (East Virginia Avenue) and Route 1515 (Center Street) for construction of business entrance, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday.
*NEW* Route 290 (Huffman Drive, Dayton) – Flagger traffic control between Route 42 (John Wayland Highway) and the Cooks Creek bridge for pavement resurfacing, Monday through Friday.
Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 722 (Armentrout Path) and Route 811 (Fridleys Gap Road) for replacement of bridge over Mountain Run, through September 30. Follow posted detour. 
Route 644 (Resort Drive) – Closed between Silverstone Lane and Woodstone Drive for paving operations and turn-lane construction, through about October 31. Follow posted detour.
*UPDATE* Route 726 (Apple Valley Road) – Closed to through traffic between Westminster Way and Crownpoint Drive for pipe installation, through Friday. 


PAGE COUNTY
 
PRIMARY ROADS
Route 340 – Flagger traffic control between Route 664 (Carvell Road) and Route 661 (Redwood Drive) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through September 30. 
Route 340 – Flagger traffic control between Route 648 (Sandy Hook Road) and Route 660 (Kibler Hill Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday.   
Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

SECONDARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 684 (South Page Valley Road) – Stop-and-proceed traffic control about three miles north of Route 675 (Bixler’s Ferry Road) for slope repairs, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through October 15.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe cleaning, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.


SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81
*UPDATE* Mile marker 268 to 270, northbound – Shoulder closures for maintenance to bridges over North Fork Shenandoah River, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October 31. 
*NEW* Mile marker 271 to 273, northbound – Overnight single lane closures for pavement patching, nights 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. September 23 – October 2. 
Mile marker 294 to 299, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures southbound, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of November 6. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 southbound widening project. 

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 11 (Old Valley Pike/North Massanutten Street) – Overnight flagger traffic control between East King Street and Warren County line for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nights through Friday. 
Route 263 (Bryce Boulevard, Mount Jackson) – Flagger traffic control between western town limits and Route 1324 (Orkney Drive) for environmental cleanup, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through September 29. 

SECONDARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 604 (Fairview Road) – Temporary traffic signal between Woodstock town limits and Route 676 (Wetzel Road) for repairs to bridge over I-81, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. September 24 – November 14. 


FREDERICK COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 302 to 300, southbound – Overnight single lane closures southbound, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through November 6. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 widening project. 
Mile marker 304 to 325, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closures for cable-barrier installation, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights, 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday nights. Estimated completion December 31.
*NEW* Mile marker 308 to 310, northbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for bridge maintenance, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.

PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 37 – Northbound and southbound right lane closures near Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike) intersection for painting of bridge over railway and Redbud Run, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 22 – October 28.  
Route 522 (North Frederick Pike) – Northbound right lane and shoulder closures at the Route 705 (Ebenezer Church Road) intersection for bridge painting, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 28.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 627 (Reliance Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1116 (Carolyn Avenue) and Route 11 (Valley Pike) for turn lane installation, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October 24.
Route 628 (Middle Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1196 (Cheifton Place) and Winchester city limits for paving operations, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 30. 
Route 656 (Greenwood Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 655 (Sulphur Springs Road) and Route 657 (Senseny Road) for paving operations, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 30. 
Route 761 (Old Charles Town Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 666 (Gun Club Road) and Clarke County line for paving operations, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 30.
Route 761 (Old Charles Town Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 666 (Gun Club Road) and Route 661 (Wadesville Road) for replacement of Opequon Creek bridge at Clarke County line. Expected completion in November 2025. Follow posted detour. 


CLARKE COUNTY
 
PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – Overnight through early afternoon westbound single lane closures between Route 632 (Crums Church Road) and Route 645 (Wrights Mill Road) for guardrail upgrades, 12 midnight to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
*NEW* Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) – Northbound and southbound right lane closures near Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) interchange for painting of Route 7 overpass bridge, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday (September 28).  

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 761 (Old Charles Town Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 666 (Gun Club Road) and Route 661 (Wadesville Road) for replacement of Opequon Creek bridge at Frederick County line. Expected completion in November 2025. Follow posted detour. 


WARREN COUNTY 
 
INTERSTATE 66
Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through November 7.
*NEW* Mile marker 6 to 5, westbound – Overnight single lane closures for bridge maintenance, 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. nights through Thursday.
*NEW* Mile marker 7 to 8, eastbound and westbound – Overnight right lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday night.

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 299 to 300, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures southbound, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of November 6. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 widening project. 
Mile marker 300 to 299, southbound – Overnight single lane closures for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through Thursday. 

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Page County line and Route 674 (Limeton Church Road) for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nights through Thursday.
*NEW* Route 522 (Winchester Road) – Overnight northbound and southbound right lane closures between Front Royal town limits and Route 637 (Riverton Road/Guard Hill Road) for inspection of bridge over North Fork Shenandoah River, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday night.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) – Flagger traffic control near intersections with Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) and FR-285 (Gap Road) for painting of I-66 overpass bridge, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday (September 28). 
Route 658 (Rockland Road) – Lane or shoulder closures as needed between Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) and Route 705 (Fishnet Boulevard) during final stages of bridge and roadway work. Estimated completion September 2025.


Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. VDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
